New book examines assisted dying ahead of 2020 referendum

Caralise Trayes being interviewed by Colin Peacock on RNZ on Sunday Mornings about her book, The Final Choice. End of Life Suffering: Is Assisted Dying the Answer?

David Seymour’s chapter is very interesting. He is really ‘cutting loose’ in some parts of it. Some quite interesting things he says...

It was a bit disappointing Jim Mora had called in sick a few days before my scheduled Radio NZ interview - Jim has an impressive journalistic background and I knew he would have read my book cover-to-cover before my interview and be ready with some really good questions. But thankfully his fill-in Colin Peacock still had serious clout with his experience at MediaWatch.

I was met at the door of the RadioNZ Auckland building by their studio sound engineer who was helping set me up to take the interview with Colin, who is based in Wellington. The producer’s bright yellow hair was striking - and her demeanour friendly. Up the elevator and into the waiting room. I was early.

Settling into a small booth minutes before going live, the theme music and introduction queued me to the countdown. Colin wasn’t afraid of asking sticky questions and inferring to a few more controversial chapters in the book - like that of David Seymour’s. The RadioNZ interview and accompanying news story has featured on their website and gained a lot of feedback - many have emailed me referring to it.

It’s clear Radio NZ continues to hold its own as a sharp, news-focused outlet.
