Book on euthanasia a must read for voters in 2020

Caralise Trayes being interviewed by Andrew Urquhart on Radio Rhema about her book, The Final Choice. End of Life Suffering: Is Assisted Dying the Answer?

One of the things I do really appreciate about the book is it does break down the various areas. This is a complicated issue and if somebody has a particular issue or wants to focus on a particular area, you can do that. It’s done through interviews and case studies. There are examples in each one of those areas. This is the sort of book which I would say is not just for people to read alone, but for people to groups perhaps with some discussion starters. This is the sort of book that people could recommend to others. Let’s have some of those discussions now. As we move toward the referenda, not very far away at all, let’s make sure that we’re making informed decisions, because honestly this is a very serious topic, and people’s lives are at stake.
— Andrew Urquhart, Presenter, Radio Rhema

Signing into Rhema in a Covid19-precautionary world takes some time. But the bonus is you get a sticker to say you’re visiting and cleared to enter.

Euthanasia is definitely a topic well covered by the radio station - apparently they’ve hosted a range of people talking about the issue as the End Of Life Choice Act was passing through the parliamentary process last year. It’s an issue they have tracked and traced closely and want their listeners to be aware of.

Host Andrew Urquhart was clearly well-versed in topics involved in the book and brought his own perspective to the more conversation-styled interview. We had time to talk in depth about some of the more complicated factors in the discussion and pull out some of the potential impacts on the disability community that had been raised in several of the interviews included in the book. He too wants Kiwis to make informed decisions.
